Welcome to our web site, VoteJarvis.com!

Many of you may remember this site when I ran for Congress and Town Council.  Although I am not running for any office yet I would like to keep people informed on what I believe is going on in national and local politics.  As always, feel free to read through the site and email if you have any questions or comments.

Waiting for Super Tuesday
When ever I put on the news all it is about is the current primaries going on.  How is it that small states are given so much press and power when later on the states will be unimportant in the national election.  I just can not wait til the major primaries on Feb 5, after that I belive the crazy press coverage will finally end and maybe then something else will be reported on.

A New Website
Many of you may remember this website from various campaigns, hence the site name VoteJarvis.com.  Since there is now a lull in the campaigning I am dedicating this site to be more informative on general political news, and also since the name for the website is already paid for I am not one to waste money.  In addition to having blogs I will also have news articles and websites that I believe are interesting.  I hope to update this as often as I can with news from my hometown of Hawthorne, as well as Passaic county, New Jersey, and the US.  Thank you for checking out the site and I hope you keep coming back.

In Hawthorne's Best Interest
As a resident of the First Ward and a candidate for that council seat, I am pleased that the Hawthorne Council has passed ordinance 1915-07 creating a new R-10 zone.  This is a step in the right direction toward redeveloping that area and replacing properties owned by absentee landlords with owner-occupied residences.
The ordinance passed 5-1 with Ward One Councilman Joe Wojtecki voting against it.  I am disappointed at his vote.  He brought up parking issues that have no merit because the number of families will remain the same.  A two-family house and a one-family house will yield the same number of units as three one family houses.  In both cases, six off-street parking spaces will be required.
I believe Mr. Wojtecki has confused redevelopment with overdevelopment.  The R-10 zone was created to promote redevelopment and the majority of the Borough Council concluded that this type of housing will achieve this goal.  The decision was in the best interestof Hawthorne.

Ordinance R-10
At last night's council meeting ordinance R-10 was brought up which would allow the construction of 3 one family houses instead of 1 two family house and a one family house.  I believe that having the one family houses would be better for the town since it would lead to less absentee ownership.  Ownership of houses usually leads to more continuity and pride in the appearance of the house.  I was happy that the resolution was passed 5-1, with Council Member Joe Wojecki being the only one to vote against it.  I believe that his rational for opposing this ordinance was illogical (the same amount of families would be living on the property so it would not effect parking, backyard's for children to play, etc.).  Ward 1 is in need of redeveopment and the Republicans on the council are doing their best to have this happen; it is a shame that the representative for Ward 1 does not seem to have the same ideas for the improvement of the area.

A New Beginning
Many of you have seen this webpage when I ran for Congress in 2006.  Now it has been updated for a new election, this time for Hawthorne Town Council, which will have their election in November of this year.  As I have said before, 2006's election was the start to a new movement, a common sense approach to government which takes into account the people and community while maintaining a small but efficient government.  I look forward to hearing from many people about any concerns they may have.

Thanks
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who went out to the polls yesterday and voted for me.  Although the election is over it is not the end of the Vote Jarvis campaign, it is just the beginning.  Hopefully we can all build on this for the future.  Once again thanks to all those who took the time to vote for me.

3 More Days
This is it, the last weekend before the election.  I hope everyone is telling their friends about the Moderate Choice and we get out the vote.  I would also like to thank the students at Felician College for the great questions and the time they gave me to tell them about what I stand for.  I also recieved a nice boost by checking out how students in high school voted for the 9th District.  Check out the site http://www.youthleadership.net/mockelection/2006/viewResults.do?state=NJ  and look at the results.  Now to hope this happens on Tuesday.

Thanks for the questions
I would like to take this time to thank all the people who have emailed questions to me.  I am pleased to answer all questions as best I can and hope they help in making your choice for who to represent you.  I would also like to thank the students at the Academies @ Englewood for the opportunity to speak to them.  I was impressed by the questions that they asked and am pleased to see them involved in the political process at a young age.  Now only 10 more days to Election Day, let us try and get as many votes as possible to show those in office that we as Americans know that there are more than just two choices.

Time to get serious with North Korea
After the nuclear testing done by North Korea the world community and the US has not done nearly enough to punish them for their blatant violation of world opinion. For years the UN has not been able to do anything to stop North Korea and now we are all paying the price of a nuclear armed country.  The sanctions being proposed by the UN are ineffectual in ending the regime in North Korea and don't even go as far as to ban all weapons from entering that country.  It is time for the US to take a firm stand against North Korea by cutting all exports to them including fuel and food. Also, the US should not yield to North Korea's demands for bilateral talks, we can not give into nuclear blackmail anymore.  The US must finally send a strong message to North Korea, and to other countries that go against world opinion, we will not deal with them.

Labor Day
Labor Day is the traditional start to the campaign season and for the next two months people will be bombarded with campaign literature.  Now each party will try and explain what they plan on doing if elected, but it seems as both parties are saying more of the same, arguing with one another instead of dealing with the problems facing America at this time.  The Democrats have said if they win control of the House they will start investigations and possibly impeachment proceedings against the President.  While I believe that mistakes have been made, impeachment proceedings will do nothing to solve the problems and will only slow down the government to a standstill.  What is needed is candidates who will put the interests of the country before their political party. The public is looking for  a representative who will say what is right not just what is popular.  As an independent candidate the only people I answer to are the voters in the district and I respect their views and will always choose what I believe is the right way.

Back from South Korea
I recently returned from a trip to South Korea where I was able to talk to the Korean people about their history, their country, and their hope for the future.  While there, I was able to visit not only the DMZ, a reminder that the Cold War still exists in some places in the world, but also Dorasan Station, a vision of the future of a unified Korea. Dorasan Station is known not as the last stop in South Korea, but the first stop in North Korea.  With this train station all of Korea is connected and it leads to markets all across Asia and Europe.  A unified Korea would benefit all Koreans, which is why the US must help in dealing with North Korea, and make it part of the international community. Only with a strong showing from the US and the international community can Korea achieve its dream, a strong unified country that is free and prosperous.

July 4th
As I kick off my campaign and the launch of my website I could not have picked a better day, July 4th.  On the day that we celebrate the birth of our country I believe it is fitting that we all become involved in the political process that was outlined by the founding fathers.  Our elected officials do not owe their position to political parties or major corporations, but to the American people that they serve.  With your help I hope to return politics to where it belongs, the people.  Enjoy the 4th with your family and friends and take time to remember the men who risked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor as they signed the Declaration of Independence 230 years ago.

Running a campaign is a significant challenge. It is difficult to get a message out to as many people as possible in a short time. Also since my campaign does not accept any campaign contributions this web site is a great way to quickly introduce ourselves and educate visitors on the key issues of the campaign.

We hope you'll find the information you need on this site to make an informed decision. We look forward to hearing from you if you have any questions or need further information.
